Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, also known as BITS Pilani, is a private deemed university, established in 1964. Located in Pilani, Rajasthan, the BITS Pilani campus spans over 328 acres. The university is affiliated with itself as a deemed university and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an ‘A’ Grade. BITS Pilani is ranked 20th in Engineering by NIRF in 2024, 19th in the University category, and 668 in the QS World University Rankings 2026.

BITS Pilani offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and doctorate programs in streams such as Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Sciences, and Humanities. Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Engineering (M.E.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) are some of the popular courses. Admissions at BITS Pilani are based on entrance examinations. The university accepts the BITS Admission Test (BITSAT) for undergraduate courses like B.E. and B.Pharm, BITS Higher Degree (HD) for postgraduate courses like M.E. and M.Pharm, and CAT/XAT for MBA programs.

For placements, BITS Pilani’s placement rate is approximately 90% for 2024. During the placement drive of 2024, the highest salary package offered was INR 60.75 LPA, and the average package stood at INR 30.37 LPA.

BITS Pilani has multiple community outreach programmes which aim at fulfilling the community needs and providing utmost help to underprivileged sections of society. Mentioned below are some of the BITS Pilani community outreach programmes.

• Nirmaan - The initiative was started in 2005 to provide education and employability opportunities to underprivileged people. 
• NSS - BITS Pilani NSS aims to inculcate values in community members and make them responsible citizens. 
• Pilani Atmanirbhar Resource Centre (PARC) - It is developed by BITS Pilani alumni trust. PARC provides training programmes, conduct women rights awareness campaigns, provides health education etc. to foster community development in Pilani and nearby areas. 

BITS Pilani provides its students with full scholarships based on different factors. Academic performance, financial status, sports performance etc. are some of the factors based on which BITS Pilani scholarships are offered to students. • Contingent on the candidates’ academic performance, the institute grants merit-based scholarships, where the top 1% of the best performers get 100% of the tuition fee exemption, and the top 2% get 40% fee exemption. 
• BITS Pilani scholarships also include a  merit-cum-need scholarship under which students get 80% tuition fee waiver if they are among the top 3% merit holders belonging to financially weaker sections of society.
• Students who have good performance in competition exams like BITSAT, AIEEE or IIT-JEE may also apply for the BITS Pilani scholarship and merit students get 75% fee concession in the first two semesters. BITS Pilani also has systems in place encouraging and rewarding students who excel in sports at international and/ or national levels; medal winners are granted tuition fee waivers between 5%-50%.
• The institute offers scholarships to UAE nationals, students who encounter challenges such as family emergencies, and physically impaired students. In line with this, BITS Pilani has recently initiated the “100x100 Scholarship Campaign” to ensure 100 percent tuition fee exemption for 100 deserving female students, an endeavour that underscores the institution’s core values of diversity and equity in higher learning.
